Oh man. I just spent like three hours dying in PURGATORIO and I’m not even mad about it.
Okay, maybe a little mad. But here’s the thing, I finally figured out which Origins are actually worth picking and which ones are just traps that’ll make your life miserable. And let me tell you, I learned this the hard way.
When I first started playing PURGATORIO on Roblox, I had no idea what I was doing. I picked an Origin that sounded great without actually understanding what it did.
And you know what happened? I got absolutely destroyed. Like, embarrassingly destroyed. My character was basically a walking corpse before I even made it past the first few days.
But after countless wipes, multiple characters, and hours of trial and error, I finally understand this game’s Origin system. And now I’m going to share everything I wish someone had told me when I started.
What Even Are Origins?
Okay so basically, Origins in PURGATORIO are like your background. They give you starting bonuses, special effects, and can completely change how your run plays out. Some are amazing for solo players. Some are incredible in teams. And some are just bad.
The really important thing I learned is that your Origin isn’t just a small bonus. It can literally make or break your entire run. Pick the wrong one and you’ll struggle through every single fight. Pick the right one and suddenly everything clicks.
Let me break down my personal experience with every Origin.

S-Tier: The One That Changed Everything For Me
T Corp – The Absolute King
This Origin is so good it almost feels like cheating.
T Corp makes all time-consuming actions take 20% less time. That doesn’t sound massive, right? I thought the same thing at first. But then I actually tried it and holy crap.
I’ll never forget the first time I ran T Corp. I was doing all my usual daily tasks and suddenly I had extra time. Like, actual extra time. I could cram in an extra quest or two that I normally wouldn’t have time for. Over a long run, that stacks up to so much extra value.
And the Haste buff at the start of jobs, you get 1 Haste for 60 seconds. It’s like having a permanent speed boost. You’re just faster at everything.
The thing that makes T Corp truly S-Tier is that it doesn’t matter what build you’re playing. It doesn’t matter if you’re solo or in a team. It’s just universally good. Every single time.
Who should pick it: Literally everyone. If you can get this Origin, take it. It’s that simple.
A-Tier: The Ones That Carried My Runs
X Corp – The Boss Slayer
Okay so I was skeptical about X Corp at first. The description says it gives damage bonuses against specific enemy types and I was like “cool, but how often does that actually come up?”
Turns out, pretty often.
X Corp gives you +30% damage against Abnormalities, Distortions, E.G.O. users, and other supernaturals. And let me tell you, those are exactly the enemies you need extra damage against. Normal enemies are easy. The bosses and supernaturals are what kill you.
I ran X Corp on a run where I was struggling with the Butcher boss. Switched to this Origin and suddenly I was actually dealing noticeable damage. It didn’t make the fight easy, but it made it winnable.
Plus you get +35% Defense from equips, which is huge. Later in the game when enemies hit harder, that defense boost keeps you alive.
Who should pick it: Anyone who hates boss fights. Anyone who wants extra damage against the scary stuff. It’s S-Tier in my heart but I put it in A because it doesn’t help with normal enemies.
K Corp – The Healer’s Dream
Let me tell you about the run where I picked K Corp and suddenly stopped dying constantly.
K Corp increases all healing by 15% and gives you an extra $5000 at the start.
The healing boost might not sound like much, but this game has so many sources of healing that it adds up fast. Every heal is chunkier. Every time you recover, you recover more. It’s a massive survivability boost.
And that extra $5000, it’s a lifesaver early game. I used it to buy better gear, invest in good starting items, and just generally not feel completely broke.
The thing I love about K Corp is how beginner-friendly it is. If you’re new and you’re dying a lot, this Origin will literally keep you alive longer. Health is a resource in this game, and K Corp gives you more of it.
Who should pick it: Beginners. Anyone who keeps dying. Anyone who wants more survivability.
J Corp – The Free Damage Button
J Corp is honestly just free damage. There’s no downside. It’s the only Origin that gives you damage without any penalties.
The first effect is that your Sanity range changes from -45/+45 to -40/+40. That’s a small change that helps keep you from completely losing your mind.
But the real winner is the Head Coins effect: +10% damage. That’s it. Just free damage.
I ran J Corp on a run where I was trying to optimize my DPS and the difference was noticeable. Every fight went a little faster. Every enemy died a little quicker. It’s not flashy, but it works.
Who should pick it: Anyone who wants more damage without any downsides. It’s an amazing beginner Origin.
B-Tier: The Situational Ones
Washed Up Fixer – The Late Bloomer
Oh man. This Origin is a rollercoaster.
Washed Up Fixer starts you with -20% Damage and -20% Base Health. You’re basically a punching bag at the start. I tried this Origin solo and got absolutely dumpstered. I was dying left and right, wondering what I’d done wrong.
But here’s the thing: every time you increase your Grade, you gain +5% Damage up to 40%. And you get an extra Skill Point when increasing Grades.
So by the end of the run, you’re actually stronger than everyone else. You’re dealing more damage and you have more skill points to work with.
The problem is getting there. You need a team to carry you through the early game while you’re weak. If you have a good team that can protect you, this Origin is incredible. If you’re solo, it’s just pain.
I tried this with a group of friends and it worked great. They carried me through the early fights, I got my Grade increases, and by the end I was the strongest one in the group. But solo, never again.
Who should pick it: Teams that can carry a weaker member. Not for solo players.
N Corp (Team) – The Team Player
N Corp is weird. It gives you +100% initial reputation to all Associations and Corporations, 10% more reputation, and all Office Members gain 10% more personal experience.
If you’re in a team, that experience buff is amazing. Everyone levels faster, everyone gets stronger, and the whole team benefits.
But here’s the problem: reputation doesn’t matter as much yet. The game hasn’t introduced all the reputation mechanics, so the rep bonus feels wasted.
I ran this Origin with a group and we definitely noticed the experience boost. But it wasn’t game-changing. It was nice, but not essential.
Who should pick it: Teams that want faster progression. Not for solo players.
U Corp – The Desperation Heal
U Corp gives you buffs and healing when you hit certain HP thresholds. At 75%, 50%, and 25% HP, you get Bolstered for 20 seconds and heal Sanity. Plus Sinking is only 50% effective on you.
Sounds cool, right? The problem is that you need to drop to low HP to get the bonuses. And in this game, dropping to low HP is usually a death sentence.
I tried this Origin and kept dropping to 25% HP to get the big heal and buffs, but I’d just die right after. It’s too risky.
That said, I can see this being decent for experienced players who know how to manage their health carefully. But for most people it’s too situational.
Who should pick it: Experienced players who know how to manage HP. Not for beginners.
C-Tier: The Ones You Should Probably Skip
Backstreets – The Speed Gimmick
Backstreets gives you some initial reputation with the Fingers, and speed boosts in specific situations.
When you recover from knockdown, Stagger, or Panic, you get 3 Haste for 6 seconds with a 20 second cooldown. When you enter combat, you get 2 Haste for 12 seconds with a 60 second cooldown.
I’ll be honest: I barely noticed these effects when I tried this Origin. The speed boosts are nice in theory but they happen so rarely that they don’t actually change anything meaningful.
The reputation bonus is okay, but again, reputation doesn’t really matter yet.
Who should pick it: Nobody, really. There are so many better options.
N Corp (Solo) – Just Don’t
I mentioned N Corp was decent for teams. For solo it’s terrible.
The experience bonus is wasted when you’re playing alone because you’re the only one benefiting. And without the team support, the reputation bonus is completely useless.
I tried this Origin solo once and felt like I was playing without any Origin at all. It was like I’d picked nothing. I was weaker than I should have been and I couldn’t figure out why I was struggling so much.
Then I realized it was just a team Origin being used in a solo context. Never again.
Who should pick it: Absolutely nobody in solo play. In teams it’s B-Tier.
The Combo That Made Me Unstoppable
Okay so here’s my secret sauce for an insane beginner build:
Torturer+Painseeker combined with Hypersensitive+Indebted.
I know, I know, the names sound scary. But trust me on this one.
The buffs from these traits are absolutely insane. You get huge damage increases, better stats, and all for downsides that are actually pretty minor. Especially in a team where others can cover your weaknesses.
I ran this combo on my last run and was absolutely shredding enemies. Like, I was genuinely surprised at how strong I felt. The damage numbers were crazy and I wasn’t even struggling with the drawbacks.
How To Actually Get Starlight
One thing that confused me at first: how do you get Starlight to buy Origins?
You get Starlight when you wipe. Yep, you read that right. When you die and lose your run, you get Starlight based on what milestones you reached, Bosses slain, Grades reached, Tax milestones, etc.
So basically, the farther you get before dying, the more Starlight you get. It’s a reward for making progress, even if you don’t complete the run.
I spent my first few runs just trying to survive as long as possible to farm Starlight. It worked. I got enough to buy T Corp and never looked back.
What I Wish I’d Known From The Start
T Corp is broken. Just take it. Seriously. I wasted so many runs trying other Origins when I could have just picked T Corp and been successful.
Free damage is better than conditional damage. J Corp’s +10% is always active. Washed Up Fixer’s damage is conditional on you getting your Grade up. Free damage wins every time.
Beginners should prioritize survivability. K Corp and J Corp are amazing for new players. Don’t try to be fancy with Washed Up Fixer or U Corp until you actually know what you’re doing.
Team Origins are only good if you have a team. N Corp is amazing in groups and terrible solo. Pick based on your situation.
Look, I’ve wiped more times than I can count. I’ve picked the wrong Origins, made terrible decisions, and watched my characters die in increasingly creative ways.
But eventually I figured it out. T Corp is the best. J Corp is free damage. K Corp keeps you alive. And Washed Up Fixer is only good if you have friends to carry you.
If you’re new, just pick T Corp and don’t overthink it. You’ll have a good run. I promise.
